Tooth Extraction

While we will do everything we can to save a tooth, there are times when tooth extraction is necessary to restore oral health.

Is It Time to Restore Your Oral Health? Tooth Extraction Can Be a Step Forward

We understand that losing a tooth can be stressful. And we take it seriously.

Our first step will be determining if extraction is actually necessary. Dr. Molnar uses advanced scanning technology that allows him to obtain precise views of your teeth for an accurate diagnosis and to determine if the tooth can be saved.

If it can't, he will use advanced dental imaging to show the position of the tooth and its roots so he can perform a safe, gentle extraction at our Tarrytown, NY, practice. Dr. Molnar's decades of dentistry experience and modern dental technology allow him to deal with even complex extractions, including wisdom teeth.

My experience at Dr. Molnar's office was OUTSTANDING ... He took the time to educate me in a productive and relatable manner. Never once was I uncomfortable or nervous. His demeanor is very relaxing as is the environment of the office, which is clean and inviting. I will never go to a different dentist as long as I live! Greg Gumpel

Gentle Tooth Extraction Treatment Timeline

While each dental patient is unique, tooth extraction by our dentist generally follows along these lines. However, if you have an active infection you may need additional dental care, such as periodontal treatment, to remove all traces of bacteria. Consultation

Dr. Molnar will use x-rays and, if necessary, advanced imaging to determine if the tooth can be saved and to analyze the tooth and surrounding area before extraction.

Sedation

Our dentist will administer a local anesthetic so that you can be comfortable throughout the procedure.

Gentle Removal

The tooth will be gently loosened and can then be carefully removed. If the tooth is impacted, an incision may be made in the gum to allow the dentist to release the tooth from the bone. If necessary, the tooth may be broken into pieces for easier removal.

Socket Preservation

We may recommend socket preservation to preserve bone density. Placing bone grafting material in the empty socket is particularly advisable if you plan on getting a dental implant. An implant is a post that can be inserted into the jaw to hold a replacement tooth.

Closing Steps

The dentist will suture the site closed, if necessary, and you will be asked to gently bite down on some sterile gauze for 30 to 45 minutes. The gauze will help slow the bleeding and help a blood clot form at the extraction site. You can expect some minimal bleeding for about 24 hours after the extraction.
